International Orders

We’ve been battling Brexit but we now have a solution that streamlines the process of buying your Bird bike from us in the UK. All international Bike orders now come as build kits requiring basic tools and some mechanical competency to assemble.

Order a complete bike from us and you’ll receive the following:

  • Frameset – with headset cups pressed in and bottom bracket & shock fitted
  • Wheelset – with tyres (and sealant), cassette & rotors fitted
  • Forks – with steerer cut to the correct length for your frame size and star nut fitted
  • Brakes – with hoses cut to length and bled (right-hand rear – let us know if you want it the UK way)
  • Cables – outer cables for gear and dropper will be cut to length
  • Parts – cranks, shifter, mech, chain, stem, bars, grips, saddle, seat clamp, chain device, headset bearings, steerer spacers, brake mounts, brake bolts and frame clips

Why have we done this?

Since the UK left the European Union, shipping overseas has been expensive for both us and our customers. Until now (4th November 2022), customers in the EU have had to pay 14% import duty on complete bikes plus their local rate VAT.

Shipping the bike as a build kit means that there is now less than 4% import duty – we’ve absorbed that cost for you on full-priced bikes and components.

We’ve also introduced a shipping charge that means you’ll get your build kit faster. The shipping charge includes your local tax rate – we’ll pay for your tax upfront; you just need to sit tight and wait for the delivery.

If you don’t pay VAT on international purchases (such as those customers in North America) – we are shipping as build kits and paying your import duties on non-discounted items upfront too.

Clearance bikes will also be shipped as build kits, but the shipping rate includes local tax and import duty costs. With the bikes being significantly reduced we simply cannot absorb that duty cost on clearance items. We’ll still pay them upfront for you, so the import process is still streamlined.

How do I order?

Easy.

Just configure your bike in our configurator and add it to your basket. Once you add your address to the shipping details the UK VAT will be removed and you’ll see the updated shipping rate with your local VAT for the order value included. Choose this rate and process the payment. We’ll get your build kit shipped out in line with our current build times.

What if I can claim my tax back?

It’s best for you to contact us in this instance. We’ll put an order together for you with adjusted shipping and then you’ll just need to pay your local tax rate when the build kit arrives in your country. You can then claim the tax back in your normal way. Just drop us an email at info@bird.bike and we’ll sort that for you.
