Suspension Tuning Days – Hamsterley Forest

Winter is here, the days are getting shorter, and the bike gets put away for the season? Not round these parts!

Now is the time to tune your bike and hone its suspension ready for the good times ahead. Book onto one of our unique suspension tuning days and maximise the grip, balance and most of all your enjoyment of your Bird FS bike. Booking now for:

  • 25th November 2018
  • December 9th 2018
  • January 27th 2019 TBC

Each tuning day covers the following:

  • Basic set up of the bike, getting the ride position, tyre pressures and set up dialled for you.
  • Hire of a Shockwiz suspension tuning device, including set up and analysis of the results
  • Modifications to your shock (Air/Tokens/Adjustments) made by us to help you get the most from your suspension and act upon the recommendations made by the Shockwiz.

Using our favourite test track at Hamsterley Forest (Nearest postcode DL13 3NL), this repeatable 4 km loop gives you all the terrain you need to get great test results for us to dial your suspension in with. It takes in (but doesn’t force you to ride) high speed jumps, drops & corners, huge berms, rock gardens and compressions as well as technical & rooty terrain, topped off with some technical climbing and fire road to complete this figure of eight loop.

Please note, in order to participate you must:

  • Be setting up your Bird full suss (any model Aeris) – sorry we cannot accommodate other brands.
  • Be running one of these shocks:
    • Monarch/Monarch Plus
    • Deluxe/Super Deluxe Air
    • Fox DPS/DPX2
  • Be reasonably fit. Expect to do 20-30km in a day. Its not a race, but if you show up and give up after 2 laps, you’ll have wasted your time!
  • Be competent to ride Forestry Commission red & black grade trails at speed. Again its not a race, but you need to test the suspension to get the best from your day.

Optional Descend Bike Park Pass

If you fancy it, the test shack is right on the main line of Descend Hamsterley. While our test track avoids the Descend trails, if you bring a full face helmet & pay for a day pass, you’re welcome to test on the descend trails too.

Other things you need to know

  • Max 4 people per session so you get plenty of face time *
  • Session runs from 10-4.
  • £75 per person
  • Our test track is mainly hard pack surface so stands up well to the weather, but is quite exposed at the top, so dress appropriately!

* If you book all 4 spots on a session we can accommodate additional riders at £20 p.p. extra, ShockWiz devices to be shared.
